There is a $3.00 fee to get into the park (unless you have a sticker) and we will need $3.00 per person for the reunion. In addition, each dinner will be $ 6.50. IT WILL BE IMPORTANT TO PAY THE FEES TO COME TO THE REUNION.ALSO, THE FEES AT THE DOOR AND FOR THE MEAL ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! All the details haven't been worked out just yet. Not trying to be tacky but last time some folks got stuck with part of the expenses as some did not pitch in so we must be a bit more demanding this time around !

Well, I think we have around 30-40 folks that are sure to come and hopefully, many more.
I've heard from a couple of folks........PAM (MALLORY) MCGEE told be about her kids and
grandkids and we compared notes on fixing up and old house......she said she'd do it again....I don't know, I'm getting too old........BETTY (EVANS) YOUNG has gone way beyond the call of duty and took care of the cost of our meeting place at the lake....I think she is still a nurse and married in Austin.....

I had dinner the other night with DON(NIE) LITTLE....we got caught up on about 35 years of history. He has been a salesman for years and has 3 children, married and living in Helotes, Texas. He is still as friendly and outgoing as ever. We shared some areas of success and regret but we both agreed we're glad to be alive and still hav'n fun.......Some others that I here from on Facebook but don't have much personal information about are....DEBBIE REVAY and WANDA (MILLER) DREW.

HOLLY (MASK) CUNNINGHAM finally showed up on Facebook! I hadn't seen or heard from her since the 10th Reunion! She and Jimmy live in New Braunfels and have their own business. She said that it keeps them very busy, especially during our reunion times which has kept her away! She has children and grandchildren and I think she and Jimmy have been married for !!!!! years! I know they dated for many years in school. Seeing her on Facebook gave me a warm feeling due to the length of time I have known her, since the 4TH. GRADE at Woodland Heights Elementary! I hope you can make it this year to the reunion!!!!!!

KAREN BROGDON lives in Chicago, IL. And said that she wouldn't be able to make it to the reunion this year but wanted to say HELLO to everyone in the class! We hooked up on Facebook and I hope to get more information from her in the future. Good to see and hear from you Karen!
….Well, I think that's all I have for now. I'm going to mail this out to those of you I have addresses on but don't have e-mails. PLEASE GET ME AN E-MAIL if you haven't already done so as this is so much easier and cheaper and faster!

REMEMBER TO LET DONNIE LAPPE KNOW IF YOUR COMING TO THE REUNION! A head count is needed by about OCTOBER 14 so please let him know!

…............Hope to see you all soon!!!!!!

Summer Newsletter - Class of '74

WEEEEELLLLLLLL!!!!! It’s time for another newsletter with updates on
different folks along with PLANS FOR THE REUNION!!! Now be sure and
tell folks about this blog so they can keep up with the news! At the second meeting
several met to discuss further plans. There was some talk of possibly waiting till next
summer and partnering with the Class of 75 as they were already on there way but
several of you said you wanted us to stay on track for October, so October it is!
Well folks, things are heating up! And not just because of the Texas heat!!!! It looks like the Reunion is on its' way to happening. So far, it looks like the location and time are as follows:

The Group Recreation Center
Texas State Park, Lake Brownwood (I'll put a map in the next
newsletter....and thank Betty (Evans)Young for her contribution
for making this happen...)
Saturday, October 24, 2009.
2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
(We need a head count by October 14, Contact Ronnie & Donnie Lappe
twolappe@juno.com)

There will be more details in the near future.....

Well, I heard from KATHY (WILLIAMS) STEWART who’s living
in Golthwaite these days! She recently moved there with her husband from Brownwood.
She works as a Certified Nurses Aide and is happily married with kids and
Grand kids. This is the first we have heard from her since High School. She is
planning on attending the reunion in the fall! GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU
KATHY!!!! VICKI ROSS LENDL has stayed in touch as well. She lives in Arlington,
Texas. I saw a picture of her daughter and she is even prettier than her mother
which is a saying a lot…(my god, …I do have such charm….sometimes it brings
tears to my eyes….) Vicki has been helping us with the reunion. She doesn’t look
any different than she did in high school! (Unlike some of us…who turn into
Homer Simpson as we age….boy…..) GOOD TO SEE YOU AGAIN VICKI!!!
MIKE DILLARD is a professor at Howard Payne and living in Brownwood. I don’t have
much additional information on him and his family. Nonetheless, it was good to hear from him. I also heard from STEVE KELLY for the first time since High School. He is married and has children, one of who works with him in his real estate business. He spent several years working for the Government and now has his own Real Estate Consulting business in Georgetown.
GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU STEVE!!!!
I got a head’s up from BOBBY ADAMS……uh…excuse me….ROBERT ADAMS…..(boy these bankers really take themselves awfully serious) ….He told me about his wife and child. He is still in the Dallas area and continues to work in banking. Hope you can make it to the reunion. STEVE SLAGLE continues to live with his wife Jane in New Braunfels and is, of course a M.D. in Internal Medicine. I believe he does mostly hospital work now. I think they got the travel bug as well and have had a few trips they can talk about at the reunion. At the planning meeting, BETTY (STORM) ALVEY announced that she had retired from teaching! I think she plans to do some traveling and probably a little sleeping in late as well.........

ON A SAD NOTE...We've lost a few classmates this year. We've said good-bye to, VICKY KING, ELIZABETH ( Bridges) ALEXANDER, and KENNY ROUSE. I think we're
all getting to a point in our lives where this will become a little more common. I think it also gives us a chance to reflect on the good-times we had with them. I do remember being in the play, THE MOUSTRAP with Elizabeth....we had a lot of fun....
We also lost one of our great mentors at BHS..... MS. DORTHY MACINTOSH who, for over 40 years led the Choral department at BHS. Glen Jones told a story to me about her the day after her funeral:

" I told this story to the preacher yesterday after the funeral. Part of his message was about
wanting certain people's approval. Miss Mac was one of those. My story begins my senior
year. After making All-Area Choir my sophomore and junior years I finally made All-State
my senior year. So after that All-State week (sometime in March) we then began working on
UIL solo and ensemble which was in late April. I was All-State!!! Why waste my time on
such useless things as UIL solo? That stuff was below me now. Well, I did the solo but did
not work on it very much. I got in the solo room, began the song, and forgot the words.
That's right...I hummed my way through my UIL solo and got a 3. Miss Mac was
HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never had I disappointed anybody in my life like I had her that day. I still
regret that."

"I have now lost the 2 most important mentors in my life (Coach Wood being the other). As
I said the day after Coach Wood died, I performed for a very special lady at a very special
place at a very special time. I love Miss Mac and I will never, ever forget her!!!!!"
If you go on Facebook on my site and scroll down to the "older posts" you will come to a
video about Miss MacIntosh. It was very well done! Though she never had children of her
own, I think it is apparent that she was a "mother" figure to a lot of people over the years.
She will be missed......"

Well I think that's enough for now. I will continue to monitor the progress for the reunion and keep you all updated. Be sure and tell everyone about this blog as it's a good way to stay up
with the progress.

See you all in October........ Homer Simpson.....I mean...uh.....James

"Class of '74 Newsletter - 2008"

James D. Rhodes - hondo_owls@yahoo.com

2008

(34 years....and counting....)

Well....I put down the pen a few years ago, thinking someone would pick it up....BUT NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! So I thought..."Is it that no one feels they can measure up .....
or..maybe.....NO ONE ELSE IS SO OVERLY SELF-INVOLVED AND OBVIOUSLY NARSSISTIC to want to go into so much self.......OH NEVER MIND....THEIR I GO AGAIN....
Anyway, I thought we’d do a quick update on a few folks and start thinking about the next reunion which will probably happen sometime around HOMECOMING, OCTOBER, 2009!!!!
I’ve heard from JANE TURNER who lives up the road in San Antonio She has apparently retired from teaching and looking at new options for her life......I told her to travel...but you would expect that from a travelholic like me!!! I remember the last reunion, she didn’t look a bit different than when she was in high school. I don’t know how some people do it!!! As I get older, I seem to look more like a cross between Homer Simpson and Santa Claus....OH...there I go again...making it all about me.......
I spoke to LEE HANEY for the first time in a while. He is still practicing law in Brownwood and trying to get his last son raised and out of the house. His older son finished school with a degree in Philosophy and in married and I believe, living somewhere near Houston. I had called him after watching the "Battle of Britain" one Saturday and reminded him of the time we saw the movie the first time at the old Bowie theater....aaahhhh....the memories...GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU LEE.......
BRIAN SAYERS still lives in Austin with his family but is working more in the area of medical research these days. He also mentioned that he was attending seminary though I did not get all the details. I think one of the good things about being alive today is that you can change careers or focus later in life.....I don’t think our parents would have even considered it.....
MARGIE LOCKWOOD MAREK told me she is finally getting her youngsters through college.
She still lives in Coppell with her husband and seemed as positive as ever. GLENN JONES is still coaching over in Brady. He and his family still seem to be going strong. Somehow he and I always get do what friends are never supposed to do....talk about politics!!!! But we haven’t killed each other yet....sooooo..... DEBRA SKELTON MCCORKIN has finally moved back from merry old England. She had lived there for about 20 years with her husband. It’s fun to hear her talk as she’s developed a slight accent.....I wonder if it will ever change back.....( My wife is from London....she’s been her 33 years and has a TEXLAND ...or is it..ENGXAS......never mind....)
Some of you might remember watching a T.V. show called, "Slam Bang Theater" on Channel
11 when we were growing up. It featured a character named "Icky Twerp." His real name was Bill Camfield. It came on every morning from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. and again from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. I remember watching it religiously. Bill Camfield and KTVT were instrumental in bringing back the "Three Stooges" to television in the southwest and they experienced a rebirth of popularity at that time. I met his son who lives in Kerrville and now works at Schriener University. In his memory, he developed a website at: http://www.ickytwerp.net./
It was amazing at how many people wrote in and talked about the creative affect that the show had on them. Just shows you the effect things like this have on children and the development of creativity! CHECK IT OUT!!!
LIZANNE SLAYTON PEEL lives in San Antonio, Texas and works in Nursing. I didn’t get much other info from her except I do remember that she too didn’t look any different at the last reunion than when she was in high school. It’s been good to correspond with her!
GLENN DAVIS keeps in touch. He gets to Brownwood from time to time and told me about his kids. He told me about the success of his business which sounds like it keeps him busy and traveling. He’s corresponded about the reunion and been quite helpful. Good to hear from you!
Well, better take some time to talk about the next reunion. The general consensus seems to be for:
Brownwood Homecoming Weekend
Saturday, October 2009.
As far as a location, I think Ronnie and Donnie are still working on that. I thought the place we had last year was adequate. Several of you discussed the idea of combining with the Class of ‘75 as well. I think that’s a good idea as they apparently have not had much in the way of numbers attending there’s in the past. Let’s get some more talk going about that.
WEEEELLLLLL .....I.I.I can’t help myself....I have to catch you all up on my exciting and wonderful existence...(ha!). Mo and I finished our little "Casita" down in San Miguel de Allende, GTO., Mexico which is to be a retirement home. If you want to check it out, go to
http://www.youtube.com/ . In the search engine type in: San Miguel - House . Go to the second page and look for James Rhodes next to a picture of a small house. It’s a little 7-8 minute video. Let me know what you think!
I think that’s all for now. Remember to get me your E-MAIL so I can keep you updated on the reunion. I’ll use this site and newsletter to update you on different folks lives and to communicate about the Reunion.

......Happy Thanksgiving....Merry Christmas....Happy Hannukuh
....and anything else I might have missed!!!!!!
